How to collect soil samples
- To collect soil samples for an accurate analysis, please follow these steps:
- Dig a 3ft x 3ft Pit
- Choose a representative area of your land and dig a pit that is 3 feet wide and 3 feet deep.
- As you dig, observe any variations in soil texture or color.
- Take Close-Up Images of the Pit
- Take detailed, close-up images of the soil layers exposed in the pit. Ensure the images clearly show the differences in soil composition, if any.
- Make sure the photos are well-lit and in focus to assist us in understanding your soil profile.
- Collect Soil Samples from Different Parts of Your Land
- Select 4-5 different locations across your land to collect soil samples for a well-rounded analysis.
- At each location, collect samples from different depths:
- Top Layer (0-6 inches)
- Mid Layer (6-12 inches)
- Deeper Layer (12-18 inches)
- From each depth, collect approximately 150-200 grams of soil. Ensure the samples are taken from freshly exposed soil.
- Mix and Package the Samples
- For each location, mix the soil from the different depths thoroughly to create a composite sample.
- Transfer 150-200 grams of the mixed soil into a clean, labeled container or plastic bag. Ensure the container is securely sealed to prevent contamination.
- Send the Samples to Us
- Label each container clearly with details like the sample location, depth, and date of collection.
- Include your contact information and any observations about your land, such as crop history or drainage patterns.
- Follow our packaging and shipping guidelines to send the samples to our laboratory.
- By collecting and sending soil samples as described, we can provide a comprehensive soil analysis and offer tailored organic farming recommendations.
How to Send Your Soil Samples
- Prepare Your Samples:
- Ensure the soil samples are properly collected, mixed, and labeled with the required details (location, depth, and date).
- Packaging the Samples:
- Place the labeled soil samples in airtight plastic bags or containers to prevent contamination and moisture loss.
- Seal the bags securely to avoid any spills or leaks.
- Choose Your Delivery Method:
- Drop-off: You can drop off the samples at our designated location during our working hours.
- Mailing: If you are mailing the samples, pack them in a sturdy box. Use cushioning material to keep the samples secure during transit.
