Why your soil report matters before design begins

Chemistry tells us what is there
pH, NPK, micronutrients, salinity. This determines which crops can survive, which nutrients are locked and what amendments are needed before a single seed goes in the ground.

Physics tells us how it behaves
Texture, compaction, drainage, water-holding capacity. A soil can be chemically rich but physically dead — roots cannot penetrate, water cannot drain, air cannot reach. Structure determines everything.

Biology tells us if it is alive
Microbial diversity, fungal networks, earthworm populations, decomposer activity. This is the dimension almost no standard test covers — and the one that determines whether your garden will still be thriving in twenty years.

How much water your soil can retain between irrigations. Sandy soils drain fast. Clay soils hold too long. Loam holds just right.

The air space within your soil. Roots need oxygen as much as water. Compacted or waterlogged soils suffocate root systems.

Aggregate Stability
How well soil particles clump into stable crumbs. Good aggregation resists erosion, compaction, and surface crusting after rain.
Indicates how much organic matter and fungal activity is needed to rebuild structure

pH Level
Acidity or alkalinity on a scale of 0–14. Most vegetables thrive at 6.0–7.0. pH controls which nutrients are available regardless of quantity.
Single most important parameter — determines every crop choice in the grid

Nitrogen · Phosphorus · Potassium
The primary macronutrients. N drives leaf growth. P drives roots and fruiting. K drives disease resistance and water regulation.

Secondary Macronutrients
Calcium, Magnesium, Sulphur. Often overlooked but responsible for cell wall strength, chlorophyll, and enzyme activity.

Micronutrients
Iron, Zinc, Boron, Manganese, Copper, Molybdenum. Required in tiny amounts but deficiencies cause visible symptoms and yield collapse.
Zinc deficiency is the most common hidden crop failure in Indian soils

Electrical Conductivity (EC)
Measures total dissolved salts. High EC from over-irrigation, chemical fertiliser history, or naturally saline soils burns roots and prevents germination.
Critical in UAE, Punjab, Rajasthan, and any borewell-irrigated land

Cation Exchange Capacity (CEC)
The soil's ability to hold and release nutrients. High CEC soils are more fertile and forgiving. Low CEC soils need frequent small applications.
Determines how we build long-term fertility and how often compost is needed

Organic Matter %
The total carbon-based fraction of your soil — decomposed plant material, humus, microbial biomass. The engine of soil fertility.
Below 1% is critical. Above 3% is healthy. Tells us how much compost and green manure the soil needs

Microbial Biomass
The total mass of living bacteria and fungi in your soil. Healthy soil contains billions of organisms per gram — they drive nutrient cycling and disease suppression.
Low microbial biomass = slow nutrient release even when chemicals are present

Mycorrhizal Fungi Presence
Fungal networks that extend root reach by up to 1000x, transporting water and phosphorus in exchange for carbon. Destroyed by tillage and phosphate fertilisers.
Presence or absence determines whether inoculation is recommended at planting

Earthworm Activity
Earthworm count and castings are a direct indicator of biological health. They aerate, drain, and fertilise simultaneously. Absence signals a sick soil.
Used to select which soil builder crops and compost application rates to recommend

Soil Respiration Rate
How much CO₂ your soil produces — a direct measure of biological activity and microbial health. A breathing soil is a living soil.
Guides whether Jeevamrit, Panchagavya or compost tea is the right biological activator

Pathogen Load
Presence of harmful fungi (Fusarium, Pythium), nematodes, and bacteria that cause root rot, damping off, and wilt in young plants.
Informs aromatic and medicinal companion placement — the biological pest defence layer
Not all reports cover all parameters. A standard government soil test covers basic NPK and pH. A comprehensive report adds organic matter, EC, micronutrients and biology. We will advise you on which parameters matter most for your specific land and grid type — and which lab to use in your region.
